From Applications to Acceptance: Seniors Honor Signing Day at College

May 1, 2025, was a big day for students across the United States. Known as National College Decision Day, it’s when high school seniors officially decide which college they’ll attend. At Baruch High School, it was also celebrated as Senior Signing Day. The school cafeteria was full of proud seniors, their families, teachers, and staff, all gathered to honor the hard work of the Class of 2025.

A Day Full of Emotions

During first and second periods, the atmosphere in the cafeteria was lively and emotional. Along with the smell of coffee, croissants, and donuts, there were feelings of joy, pride, and a little bit of sadness too. Everyone knew this moment marked the end of one journey and the beginning of another.

Many students felt mixed emotions. After going through months of college applications, essays, and waiting, it was finally over. But for some, that also meant the end of a unique chapter in their lives.

Mixed Feelings About Moving Forward

Senior Duru Aksoy shared her thoughts on the college process. “I was so stressed throughout the whole [college] process, but I’m kind of upset it’s coming to an end,” she said. She described it as a strange and emotional roller coaster.

Another senior, Lauren Lau, admitted to feeling nervous about starting this new chapter without her parents by her side. “I mean, I don’t know how I’m going to be in the real world without my parents,” she said honestly.

Fellow senior Hannah Lu added, “It’s nerve-wracking, but I’m excited too because I’ll be dorming and it’s a new setting.” Like many others, she felt both nervous and thrilled to step into a new world.

A Moment of Pride

Despite the worries, the celebration was full of pride. Senior Emma Duek expressed her appreciation for her classmates. “I’m proud of all my peers for making it so far,” she said with a smile. The whole room shared that proud feeling, recognizing the effort and achievements of the Class of 2025.

A Special Goodbye from a Beloved Counselor

One emotional moment came from college and guidance counselor Nicole Epstein, who is soon changing her name to Mrs. Eisner. This class holds a special place in her heart because they will be the last to call her “Ms. Epstein.”

“I feel like I’m ending an era with them,” she said, calling it symbolic. She reflected on her journey with this group, from family meetings to seeing them on stage, saying, “It’s very full circle.”

A New Beginning

Even though college decisions have been made, the journey of learning continues. Senior Emma Duek summed it up perfectly: “I think I have a lot of learning left to do, but I mean, is anyone ever fully prepared?”

As Baruch seniors move on to the next phase of their lives, they carry with them lessons, memories, and the support of a community that believes in their future. This was more than just a celebration—it was a heartfelt send-off into adulthood.

College Decision Day 2025 was not just about choosing a college—it was a celebration of growth, hard work, and new beginnings. With joy and a few tears, Baruch’s seniors stepped into the next chapter of their lives. They may be leaving high school, but they are taking with them friendships, experiences, and a spirit that will guide them through whatever comes next.
